M. Asli Dukan is an independent mediamaker who has written, produced and directed numerous short films that have screened at festivals across the country including most recently, the BlackStar Film Festival in Philadelphia in 2017. She has received several grants and awards, including the Leeway Transformation Award (2016). Also in 2016, she had the honor of being named an NBPC 360 Fellow with the National Black Programming Consortium in New York. She holds an MFA in Media and Communication Arts from the City College of New York and is the founder of her own company, Mizan Media Productions. She is currently in post-production on the feature length project, Invisible Universe, a documentary about the history of Black people in the genres of speculative fiction. Her next projects are the near-future web series, Resistance: the battle of philadelphia and the anthology horror film, Skin Folk, based on the book by the award winning SF writer, Nalo Hopkinson.
